Often times I wonder what SuperMom is thinking. The other day was one of those days. See SuperMom likes to answer the kids with some off the wall comments. So last week, Jr had a dental procedure which required that he be sedated. This required that he come to our kids' hospital and undergo a normal surgical type procedure. He had to check in, get moved upstairs, change into a gown, and wait on the doctors/nurses to come in and administer the drugs. So one of the things, he had to undergo was having a plastic bracelet placed on his wrist with his name and other information. Multiple times the nurses would come in and ask him his birthday or his name while looking at the bracelet. So finally, after a few of these, Jr asked SuperMom, why he needed a bracelet with his name on it. He knew his name and birth date and could just tell them. So SuperMom explained that it was to identify him when he was asleep. To which Jr asked why that was important. So again SuperMom tried to explain that it was to make sure that the doctors did the right surgery and didn't do a surgery that was for someone else. She asked "you wouldn't want to have someone else's surgery right?" Of course, Jr needed more information. He asked "what type of other surgery?", not that concerned about having the wrong one. So SuperMom wanted to show the importance and said "like having your penis removed". Now this is the point where I just shake my head wondering what in the world was she thinking, because this opens up a whole new set of questions. Jr wanted to know if that was really a surgery and why would that be done and all types of other stuff. SuperMom avoided those questions and got the point across to Jr. So Jr states that he doesn't want his penis cutoff. Problem solved and thanks for the bracelet. Now Jr goes back for the procedure and SuperMom thinks she got the point across about the importance of the bracelet and Jr understood and was done with it. So the procedure was a success and SuperMom was sitting by the bed when Jr was waking up. Now as every other 7 year old would do, as soon as he woke up he silently reached down and checked to make sure they didn't give him the wrong surgery. He was happy to know everything was still where it was supposed to be. Poor kid was probably scared out of his mind.
