My youngest, Jr, is unique. He is extremely strong willed and really only interested in trucks, trains, and construction equipment. He is also the one that never stops moving and refuses to go to sleep. Apparently, he only needs 3-4 hours of sleep per night. He stays up as late as we will let him. Thus getting him to actually go to bed at 8:30 pm and to stay in bed and to actually go to sleep is a challenging experiment. I should point out that DP is an early riser and also goes to bed early. Thus you can see, SuperMom and I never get a full night's sleep.
Back to Jr; One night when DP's and Jr's bedroom was upstairs, we sent them off to sleep. Fifteen minutes later DP is a sleep and Jr comes down the stairs. I ask him what is going on and he has a few excuses but I get him back to bed. Fifteen minutes or so later down comes Jr. This time I am a little more firm with him and tell him "You need to go to bed!". He states "I can't go to bed because I can't find my phone". "You don't have a phone", I reply. His replies "But I can't find my phone". Again, I say "You don't have a phone". His reply "I know I can't find my phone". After a few minutes I give up and send him to his room without his non-existent phone.
This is an example of the conversations Jr and I have. It seems like two different conversations at the same time. I never know what in the hell is going on. I feel like I am having a pop test on a subject I didn't know I was taking. I had a professor in graduate school that told us, while giving a presentation and people ask you questions, you don't have to answer the question they asked, you can answer any question you want. Apparently, Jr took this same class in Kindergarten, because he only answers the questions he wants and ignores the rest.
