So as I have said many times before, DP is very literal and extremely black and white. In his mind it is either right or wrong, good or bad, correct or incorrect. Nothing in the grey area. The other day, I was rushing with DP and Jr in the truck trying to get to football practice. I was not speeding, only because the conditions didn't allow for it. I came up to a red light. I stopped and then turned right as is legal in my state. Since DP doesn't drive, he hasn't learned all of the rules of the road yet. He was unaware of the right on red rule. He pipes up "Well we are breaking the law, but the good thing is we will be at practice on time". I explained to him it isn't illegal to turn right on red and then proceeded to answer many other questions about the rules of the road, "like can you turn left on red?", "Why not?", etc. If this was an isolated case, I wouldn't be writing about it. However, the other day, SuperMom was driving down an country road near our house and saw a trooper with radar on the side of the road. She looked at her speedometer and made a noise. Apparently, she was going 40 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. DP asks "Are you speeding?" .SuperMom said "I am going five miles over the speed limit". To this he replied, "What are you going to do when he pulls you over?" She stated that "he hadn't turned on his lights and thus was not pulling her over, but if he did she would give him her license and registration". "What would you do if he gave you a ticket?" was his next question. "Pay it" was the reply. Finally he says "you wouldn't have to worry about that if you go what the sign says".
I can't wait until he gets his first ticket. I am going to repeat those words to him over and over. Oh well, Officer DP enforcing the rules of the road keeping us safe.
